Top Thrill Dragster

Top Thrill Dragster opened at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio in 2003. When it opened, two years after Millennium Force, it was the tallest and fastest ride in the world, reaching a height of 420 feet and a speed of 120 miles per hour. It is themed like a drag car launching on a track. Next to the main launch of the ride, there is a viewing section so that those who are too scared to ride can still experience the thrill. It is powered via hydraulic launch system rather than LSM or LIM. This allows incredibly heavy cars to reach their max speed and climb the 400 foot hill with ease. However, this ride is known to present risk of rollback. Some coaster enthusiasts live for this event. A rollback occurs when the train does not complete the hill and falls backwards, 400 feet, back into the station. This risk alone kept me from riding it, but this image is from my Cedar Point trip in 2008.
