Millennium Force opened in 2000 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. It was known as the world’s first giga coaster (any coaster to break 300 ft in height) at a height of 310 feet and a top speed of 93 mph. When it opened, it broke 6 records including: tallest coaster, fastest coaster, and longest drop. It also helped Cedar Point maintain their record of most roller coasters in a single park. The ride does not have any inversions, but it does provide a lot of airtime and a thrilling drop. Interestingly, the ride is not a lunch coaster, but it does not use a traditional lift chain either. Millennium Force uses an elevator cable to lift trains up the first hill. This allows the trains to climb faster while using less energy. However, this does have a drawback because the cable catch must travel 300 feet back down to pick up each and every car. This image is from my own trip in 2008 where it became my favorite ride.
